How serious can car accident injuries be?
A recent survey conducted in the nation pointed out that drivers in Las Vegas are 21% more likely to have a collision than the national average.
While generalized pain and sprains are the most common injuries, a serious car accident can also cause blunt force trauma that could lead to fractures and punctures in the body and also injuries to the spine and chest. If such accidents cause injuries, most of them can cause long term pain and problems with mobility.
What is whiplash?
Any injury as such implies some kind of damage to tissues and tissues that have a greater density of nerve fibers like ligaments and tendons, especially along the neck and spine, are susceptible to some of the most painful injuries. The most common kind of neck injury is a strain, which is also known as a whiplash. The term refers to an impact or blow that causes your head to jerk back and forth. This strain can also force stretch and tear the attached tissues in your neck.
Why are these injuries so severe?
What causes such extensive damage in the neck is the mechanism by which the whiplash injury takes place in a car accident. When the collision takes place, as the vehicle keeps accelerating forward, the head initially remains in the original position, which results in a stiff straightening of the neck and then the extension on impact. At the extreme straightening and while a backward pull, the ligaments in the front neck get stretched extensively and can tear. And within milliseconds of this tissue strain, the neck is again propelled forward into flexion which injure the ligaments at the back of the neck. This also places an undesired amount of force on the joint capsules and ligaments that hold the bones together in very close proximity. All of this happens within a few milliseconds! This speed is also a reason for such severe injuries.
A study pointed out that 57% of the people suffering with chronic pain post their injuries had their car accidents occurring from a rear-end collision.
How does chiropractic care help?
In Las Vegas car accident treatments also have the option for chiropractic care. The unique advantage that chiropractors have over other modes of treatment include manual therapies like spinal manipulation that can reduce inflammations in micro-tissues. Chiropractic adjustments can mobilize you spine and allow the healing process to begin sooner. Car accident chiropractor specialization allows to assess wounds and injuries better than other conventional forms of medicine and treatment because it allows for hands-on therapy. There are also multiple case observations in patients have shown that chiropractic care post automobile associated injuries controlled the level of pain caused from such damage because the physical manipulation allowed for the release for more pain-reducing hormones in the body. They make a stringer alternative to drugs, evidently because one can completely scratch down the issue of addiction and dependency on such drugs to relieve themselves from chronic pain. These drugs also have many side effects. This makes chiropractors a much more efficient and safer mode of post injury therapy.
